Tent going up

By 9:10 am the flags are flying and the tent is in the air. I caught a worker lacing together the various sections around a pole. Quarter pols are going in and the side poles are being set around the tent. It was just beginning to warm up on this lot and most of the hard work was out of the way.

More Circus Vargas Tent going up

This is a different angle of the tent on Circus Vargas going up. This picture taken just a few minutes after the first one and already the vynal tent is being pulled out. In the forground note the marquee tent on the ground and the polls layed out. As the superstructure is going up a second unit of workers is busy driving the metal steaks into the ground. This lot has a gentle slope and is a blacktop parking lot when not being used by a circus. The lot is infront of the historic old Navy Hospital headquarters and about 6-blocks from the San Diego Zoo.

Tent going up on Circus Vargas

This photo taken about 8:30 am on an Monday morning in April 2002 on the Circus Vargas Lot in San Diego. The metal superstructure was up shortly before 8 a flat bed truck was driven under the metal support system and the tent was lifted off of the truck. The 15-man work force was busy guying out the various sections.

Circus Vargas on the lot

This shot taken of the Circus Vargas show set up on the lot in April 2002 at Balboa Park over looking downtown San Diego. This show plays San Diego County early in the season and moves onto the Balboa Park Lot for the Easter Vacation. Box office on right with Arthur's Exotic Animals, tent behind the box office and the marquee and big top center.
