Vargas Concession stand open

(Click image to view full size)

This image shows the Circus Vargas concession wagon dressed out and open for business. There is a heavy duty popcorn popper, two floss machines and a kitchen for hotdogs and corn dogs and candy apples. This is the kind of concession stand you would find on a County Fair midway that can cost $70 to 85-thousand dollars depending on the equipment installed inside and the electric signs. Circus Vargas has always been know for having the best concession wagons on the road. This unit is no exception.

Concession Wagon on Circus Vargas

(Click image to view full size)

Here is a view of the Circus Vargas concession wagon, which is a 5th wheel vehicle and very well equipped. This is how it looked as it came off the road. Other concession boxes on large casters have been unloaded from a nearby truck. The big red boxes open up and display items to be sold in the Marquee tent. This is all show owned equipment.

Circus Vargas elephant ride set up

(Click image to view full size)

Here is a view of the Circus Vargas elephant ride set up on the midway. There is a similar unit on the Carson & Barnes Show, perhaps other shows as well. During the railroad circus days a Circus never had carnival rides on their midway. Most circus operators refered to carnivals and ride operators as a "disease" and would not have them on their show. But times have changed. The rides are easier to transport, are self contained units and make good money for the show owner. They have now become part of the circus midway.

Circus Vargas Midway Ride

I was also asked about the childrens elephant ride. In this photograph you see it spotted about where it will be set up on the midway. This is a small carnival ride with colorful fiberglass elephants. Note the metal safety fence that goes around the ride on the front and back of the wagon carrying the ride. This is a self contained unit and is show owned. Also note the brightly painted Circus Vargas semi in the back ground that carries among other things concession supplies.

Circus Vargas Questions:

(Click image to view full size)

Circus Fan Rebecca, set an e-mail asking some questions about the Circus Vargas photo's I posted last week. I will try to answer her questions and perhaps those of other fans with these additional Vargas pictures. Note the show owned pick up truck loaded with a portable generator and adjustable light stand that has been folded down. The show has several of these units and spot them along the front end, midway and backyard. Behind the pick up truck is a lowboy trailer with a spool that carries the marquee canvas that is on the ground behind the trailer. The poles for the marquee tent also are carried on this trailer as are the side walls that are still in their vinyl bags. In the background the round top is a pony ride that is operated by the petting zoo folks.
