The City of Lawrence, MA is considering a ban on circuses that use performing animals. The Ordinance Committee of the Lawrence City Council will be holding a hearing on this matter next Thursday, Nov. 6, at Lawrence City Hall at 200 Common Street, on the 1st floor (Council Chambers). The meeting is open to the public. If there are any local Circus Fans who can be there, the support would be greatly appreciated!
The link to the Lawrence website is http://www.ci.lawrence.ma.us/. The site has mailing addresses and e-mail links for the Mayor and City Council. Fortunately, Lawrence Mayor Michael J. Sullivan is opposed to this ban, and he has veto power if the full Council passes the measure. It's important that we get letters to the Ordinance Committee (and full City Council, if you wish) in opposition to this ban. You may want to send a copy of your letter to the Mayor, so his office has an idea of how many circus supporters have weighed in on this issue.
Please feel free to contact me at mkelly@feldinc.com if you have any questions. Please spread the word to anyone in the Lawrence area!
