I was not sure where to send this request, but thought you might could help forward it to the correct places. I am a nurse in Pediatric Cardiology at University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham, AL. I work with some of the best people and one of those is a young man named Raleigh. He is a child life therapist who works with our children and sometimes even adults in making their hospitalizations easier by explaining things in their "language" and incorporating fun and play into it to help with their fears.
He recently went with me and some of our patients to Michigan for a conference for young people with Implantable Defibrillators and was a instant hit with all of them. He has a way of connecting with others that is amazing to watch.
We are not sure if funding at our hospital will allow him to stay with us indefinitely. We have another child life therapist, Jane who is trying in all ways possible to find a way for him to stay and my hope and prayer is that it will work out.
My request of you involves something more in your area....Raleigh has a magical ability of creating laughter around him-he has a deep passion to help care for the sick in the ways of Patch Adams and Dr. Jerko by recognizing we are not just physical creatures but emotional and spiritual ones too and laughter does amazing things to lift the spirit and help heal the body.
We wondered if perhaps you could help by supplying him with an old pair of clown shoes....he wears a size 9-91/2 and they are pretty expensive so I had hoped maybe one of your clowns who got a new pair, might be willing to share and old set!! I assure you that they will be put to good use, helping heal the hearts and spirits of our patients!!
