CIRCUS FANS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA SUPPORTS THE WITTE MUSEUM WITH DONATION FOR RESTORATION EFFORT OF HERTZBERG CIRCUS COLLECION

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee-July 13, 2004-The Circus Fans Association of America board of directors voted at its annual convention in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee the week of June 14, 2004 to support the efforts of the Witte Museum of San Antonio, Texas to restore the valuable Hertzberg Collection. According to CFA president, Colleen Stewart, the association supports organizations like the Witte Museum that preserve the history of the American Circus. The association has pledged $1,000 to the restoration effort. Stewart said that the CFA support of the restoration project would create interest in circus fans throughout America to donate to the museum’s efforts.

The Witte Museum recently acquired the famous Hertzberg Collection that has been displayed in San Antonio for several years. The collection has fallen into a state of disrepair and needs substantial restoration, which the Witte Museum is committed to do. Stewart said that the Hertzberg Collection is an important treasure of the American Circus and should be preserved. She praised the efforts of the Witte Museum to undertake the restoration effort.

When completed and on permanent display in a beautiful setting, the Witte Circus collection will become a major tourist attraction for the San Antonio community.

"The Witte Museum is grateful for this important gift to restore the Hertzberg Circus," said Witte Museum Interim President Marise McDermott. "The gift is important because the Circus Fans Association of America is well respected among circus historians and collectors. We are especially moved because Harry Hertzberg was once an involved member of the Circus Fans Association."

The Circus Fans Association of America, created in 1926 is North America’s largest circus fan organization. The goal of this association is to preserve and support the perpetuation of the traditional American Circus in America. Stewart said that supporting the Witte Museum is in keeping with the objectives of Circus Fans Association of America.
