New information added 10/26/05: The Venice Area Historical Society will dedicate the Gunther Gebel-Williams sculpture December 5, 2005 10:30 am at the Venice Train Depot, 303 East Venice Avenue in Venice, FL.
The statue of famed circus performer Gunther Gebel-Williams is now in place at the restored Venice, FL train depot. The historic Venice railroad depot is where the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Trains once parked for winter quarters. The statue faces to the west overlooking the Railroad Park and the Inter-coastal Water Way. Trains no longer call on Venice, and the railroad property has been purchased for conversion to a trail that will run from Venice to Clark Road in Sarasota. The restored depot is a transfer station for area bus routes and will serve the new rails to trails park.
