Henry Godlewski New Hartford Henry (Hank) Godlewski, Jr. 70, of New Hartford, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare. He was born on May 26, 1937 in Utica, the son of the late Henry and Josephine Trepacz Godlewski. He served with the US Army from 1960 until 1962. On Jan. 3, 1970, Henry was married to Lorraine Czupryna Ryan, in New Hartford, NY. Henry was a well known artist in the Utica area. He taught in the Art Department at Mohawk Valley Community College from 1976 to his retirement in 2003. When he joined MVCC, it was as a member of the faculty in the Advertising, Design and Production Department. Later, the department became known simply as the Art Department, and Henry was the first coordinator and curriculum designer for the illustration major within the department. Previously he was employed at Mohawk Data Sciences as international art director. Henry also volunteered with many local community groups, and contributed art works to various organizations to aid in their fund raising and other events. He served for more than 15 years as the volunteer graphics consultant and illustrator for The Good Old Summertime program, and designed many commemorative plates for Fountain Elms. He was a member of the Utica Chamber of Commerce and conceived and designed the "Utica Has It All" program. Henry illustrated and produced several science textbooks through his firm, Godlewski Design Inc. He was a dedicated circus fan, and his main concern was to save the circus for future generations. For many years he has been the editor and publisher of an international magazine, "The Little Circus Wagon". He was a member of three circus groups; Circus Model Builders, Circus Fans, and Circus Historical Society. Henry is survived by his wife, Lorraine; a beloved daughter and son-in-law, Alison and Lawrence Cahalan, New Hartford; a sister, Diane Mann, Syracuse; two grandsons, Dakota Ryan and Jacob Cahalan, with whom he spent many happy hours sharing a love of art and other projects; a brother-in-law, Walter Czupryna, and wife, Marianne; two nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased in 2000 by a treasured son, Christopher Ryan, M.D. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Monday, March 17, 2008, at St. Thomas Church, Clinton Road, New Hartford. Friends and family may pay their respects to the family at the conclusion of the Mass in the church vestibule. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Henry Godlewski Memorial Scholarship Fund at Mohawk Valley Community College, 1101 Sherman Drive, Utica, NY 13501. Arrangements are under the care of the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, Utica / New York Mills.
