Sailor Circus paintings, created by award-winning Japanese
wildlife artist Shingo Saotome, and donated to PAL Sailor Circus, Sarasota FL
USA on March 20, 2007, will be on display at the CFA National Convention in
Hershey PA May 21 – 25, 2007.
Original paintings, valued at more than $40,000, feature several child/youth
circus performers within various settings.
Artist Saotome was inspired to create the set of paintings during a visit
to Sailor Circus during the 2006 holiday shows. Limited Edition numbered and
signed fine-art Giclee prints of original paintings are available for purchase.
Sales are already reported to be
brisk. Those interested to secure low
collection print numbers are encouraged to place their orders without
hesitation. Proceeds from sales of
limited edition fine-art prints benefit PAL Sailor Circus capital building campaign,
a project of the Sarasota Police Athletic League. Original paintings are being retained
by Sailor Circus to become part of their new circus history museum.
“This is very exciting for us,” said Sailor Circus Director of Development
Jim Shirley, “Having such a talented and important artist like Mr. Saotome make
a contribution like this not only provides us with a unique fundraising
opportunity, it also provides our fans and supporters a chance to own a piece
of fine-art that commemorates Sailor Circus.”
Artist Saotome is from Okayama
Japan,
and has been painting since 1993. His favorite
paint is acrylic. Mr. Saotome was
honored with the prestigious "Arch Award“ (People’s Choice for favorite
painting at the Art Collection House Exhibition) in the Ginza District of Tokyo
Japan. Artist Saotome’s wildlife paintings
are recognized in the Japanese Art Almanac. Prior to the Sailor Circus series, nature
and wildlife paintings were his focus.
PAL Sailor Circus is operated as a program of the Police Athletic League of
Sarasota County, Inc. PAL is
dedicated to the development of programs that provide a safe environment for
children to participate, learn, and achieve while developing positive
relationships between kids and law enforcement. The mission of PAL Sailor
Circus is to keep the family tradition of the circus alive while using circus
arts as an alternative teaching method and intervention program for youth at
risk in the community.
