Japanese Artist Presents Paintings to Sailor Circus
Sarasota, FL (March 20 2007) – Award-winning Japanese painter, Shingo Saotome, presented seven original paintings to PAL Sailor Circus at an unveiling ceremony at the Sailor Circus Arena on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00 pm.
The paintings, valued at more than $40,000, feature several of the child circus performers and were inspired by Saotome’s visit to Sailor Circus during the 2006 holiday shows. These paintings will be offered as signed, limited edition prints with all proceeds to benefit the Sailor Circus capital campaign. The original paintings will be retained by Sailor Circus and become part of the circus’ history museum.
“This is very exciting for us,” said Sailor Circus Director of Development Jim Shirley, “Having such a talented and important artist like Mr. Saotome make a contribution like this not only provides us with a unique fundraising opportunity, it also provides our fans and supporters a chance to own a piece of fine art that commemorates Sailor Circus.”
Shingo Saotome is from Okayama, Japan and has been painting since 1993. He has been honored with the prestigious "Arch Award“ (People’s Choice for the favorite painting at the Art Collection House Exhibition in the Ginza District Tokyo Japan) and his art is also recognized in the Art Almanac. Saotome uses acrylic paints and prior to the Sailor Circus series, focused his work on nature and wildlife.
PAL Sailor Circus is operated as a program of the Police Athletic League of Sarasota County, Inc. PAL is dedicated to the development of programs that provide a safe environment for kids to participate, learn, and achieve while developing positive relationships between kids and law enforcement. The mission of PAL Sailor Circus is to keep the family tradition of the circus alive while using the circus arts as an alternative teaching method and intervention program for youth at risk in the community.
