Cirkids - School

http://www.cirkids.org

Youth Circus -Circus Summer Camp-Adult Training CirKids was founded in 1984 by a group of parents in the arts community, who wanted to give their kids the once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform as a circus troupe. It was inspired by the Australian Fruit Fly Circus, which came to the Vancouver International Children's Festival in 1982, and returnedfor Expo '86. The school is equipped with aerial trapezes, corde lisse, tightwires, trampolines, juggling equipment, unicycles, and all aerial and ground safety devices. Equipment is tested regularly for safety. Students are instructed in all circus skills, and are encouraged to develop routines in their favorite areas. They are never pressured to continue something with which they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. There are many different activities --- everyone can be good at something. From that comes confidence and self-esteem. With that confidence, kids can go where they never dreamed to go: walking a tight wire, juggling fire, or taking a flip off a trapeze. Classes are under supervision of our experienced coaches who have NCCP level 2 training, as well as their skills in circus arts. Guest artists and specialty workshops are a frequent part of the yearly program. The coach to Cirkid ratio is 1 to 7 or better. Circus may involve gymnastics, but it isn't gymnastics. It's all about personal and co-operative achievement. There are no points to be scored, and no losers. There's only the thrill of seeing the audiences' jaws drop. Cirkids provides physical and personal challenges - a place where people discover themselves and learn to work with others.
