Frequent Flyers Productions, Inc. - School

http://www.frequentflyers.org

Aerial Dance-Theatre Company Produced by Frequent Flyers Productions, Inc., a non-profit, aerial dance-theatre company. FFP's mission is to create, present, and promote original and magical low-flying trapeze and aerial dance performances of the highest quality for diverse public audiences and to enrich people's lives through educational opportunities. Our vision is to help people to see the world from a new perspective through experiencing the upside-down realm of low-flying trapeze. We believe this expanded conciousness helps people to maximize their creative potential. Frequent Flyers Productions, Inc. is offering classes to high school physics and math students and their teachers for a hands-on experience with low-flying trapezes to explore the physics, geometry, and mathematical principles inherent in the activity. To date, 120 area students have participated in the project. During the two-session workshop, students develop skills on the trapezes and explore circular motion, pendulums, harmonics, and torsional oscillation as physical experiences and through cognitive processes. The classes are designed to coincide with classroom studies of the math and physics principles. The purpose of Aerial Sci-Arts is to deepen kids' understanding of the physical principles affecting their everyday world through this unique hands-on activity. Also, kids who might not be drawn to an arts activity, particularly dance, have a new avenue open to them in a non-threatening environment and a highly engaging activity. Seed funding for this project was provided by the Denver Foundation, US West Foundation, and Norwest Neighborhood Assistance Foundation. Anyone interested in learning more about the project should contact Frequent Flyers Productions. The Aerial Dance Festival 2002 provides an opportunity for people from all walks of life to experience the joy of dancing in the air -- for beginners through advanced aerial dancers. Join us for a week-long immersion through classes, lecture/demonstrations, informal discussions, and performances. The internationally recognized faculty brings many years of expertise to the classes. Don't miss a truly unforgettable week of airborne dance!
