2010-11_Report-Circus 4 Youth

ANNUAL REPORT, MAY 1, 2010

April 30, 2011

To the CFA Officers and Board of Directors,

The Circus4Youth project has now completed it’s 5th year of operation.  Our Circus4Youth website had 20,395 visits during the above listed dates.  Also during that time frame, 19 new feature articles were added, and over 200 photos were displayed on our front page (see a few of them below).

A trend that has resulted from the Circus4Youth project is youth circuses, circus summer camps, trapeze schools, TV networks and even professional circus producers contacting me for recommendations for employment purposes.  While this is clearly not a function of Circus4Youth, I have non the less provided such information and it has resulted in 4 flying trapeze catchers from youth circuses getting summer jobs, as well as a young lady from a Florida youth circus working as an instructor at another youth circus in St. Louis.  One of the feature article from last year was called “Meet Jonathan Rinny”, who is a young performer on the Carson & Barnes Circus.   This article was read by circus producer Billy Martin who was so impressed by it that he hired the entire Rinny family for his winter tour!
  • Nathon Deets, former catcher at Sailor Circus was recommended to Long lake Circus Camp for a summer job in 2010.
  • Jonathan Rinny on Carson & Barnes in 2010 and on tour with Billy Martin
& the Hanneford Circus in 2011

The Circus4Youth Committee is presently as follows:

A major project was taken on and completed.  I had long envisioned a media video project that gave an accurate overview of what youth circus is all about.  Last year both the CFA and American Youth Circus Organization (AYCO) combined our efforts and funding and produced a 5 minute video called “Youth Circus in the USA”.  It was done by CFA member Deborah Grosmark , who is also on the board of the Amazing Grace Youth Circus! in Nyack, NY. This is now viewable from the front page of the AYCO, CFA and Circus4Youth websites.  It is available for use to ANY youth circus organization, and if you have not yet seen it >>>  http://www.vimeo.com/19127418

This tab is on the front page of our CFA
websites.

Circus4Youth also went on Facebook, which has resulted in a lot of attention to our project.  This is being managed by C4Y committee member Don V Smith, who oversees this  Facebook project with the same “parental scrutiny” as he does with his 15 year old daughter’s Facebook page.

To close, I wish to thank the CFA Officers and Board of Directors for their continued support of this project, and I pledge my efforts to keeping Circus4Youth “on the road” for many more seasons!

MAY ALL YOUR DAYS BE CIRCUS DAYS!
Jim Cole
Youth Chairman, CFA
