2010-11_Report-District 5

District V - Jack Stengel

Summer is upon us and the great circus hunt is on!  On June 4th a few of us witnessed Ringling's "Fully Charged" in the Qwest Center in Omaha.  It was a dazzling show, but somehow we missed
the fliers.   We old timers see the circus changing and I suppose it is inevitable.   Carson & Barnes are coming through the upper Midwest this summer so we will witness their new one-ring show.
Someone once said that the only things that truly embrace change are babies and vending machines!   CFA is very fortunate to have the report from the hard-working Long Term Planning Committee and I hope
that we all take their findings seriously since we will have to change, too, if we are to survive.   Do I like it?   No.

The suggestions that I DO like include an electronic "tent",  getting on Facebook, working with other circus associations and accepting Cirque du Soleil.  I DO NOT prefer asking circuses to give us a discounted ticket.   We are to "pay our way" and putting WHITE TOPS on line will simply give people another excuse for NOT sending in their dues since the magazine is sometimes the only "hook" we have to retain members.   A shorter national convention might tempt more members to come, too. since hotel bills are not cheap.

As I leave your board I want to assure you that I will support CFA in any way I can and I have enjoyed getting to know and working with some fantastic people.

God Bless . . .

Jack Stengel
