"We of CFA love the circus in all its forms...."
Gary Payne has issued the following statement in regard to today's announcement by Feld Entertainment that its elephants traveling with the circus units will be retired: Members and friends of the Circus Fans Association of America
(CFA) are stunned and saddened by the announcement of the Feld family, that
their Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus elephants will be moved to
the Ringling Center for Elephant Conservation, and no longer featured as the
stars of the Circus. We understand the challenges and difficult business
decisions that are involved in designing entertainment for today's audiences.
We of CFA love the circus in all its forms, with or without
animals.
When the circus comes to town in the future, if there are no
elephants, or perhaps no animals at all, will the public and the endangered
Asian elephant be as well served? CFA will continue to seek to
foster understanding among the public of the wonderful care and respect that
circus animals enjoy!
We can expect that this great American enterprise will continue in perhaps
bold new ways while continuing to address the very real concern for the
survival of elephants and all endangered species.
Gary C. Payne, 2015-2016 National President/Circus Fans Association
of America
