BREAKING NEWS....

SPECIAL TO THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE CIRCUS FANS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA

New CFA Animal Issues Web Link Now Online

NEW LINK FROM MAIN CFA WEBSITE WILL HELP CFA AND CIRCUS INDUSTRY COLLABORATE ON ANIMAL ISSUES

"...THE GO-TO PLACE FOR CAMPAIGNS PROTECTING THE RIGHTS OF AMERICANS WHO WISH TO SEE ANIMALS IN THE CIRCUS...."

By Mort Gamble, CFA National Public Relations, and Gary Payne, CFA Eastern Vice President and Chair, Animal Welfare Committee

Recognizing the need to keep members of the Circus Fans Association of America informed of often fast-moving animal legislation affecting the circus industry, the CFA’s Animal Welfare Committee is launching a new electronic information site linked to the main CFA website.

The link, "Grassroots CircusFAns.org," is located under the Circus 4 Youth link on the lefthand side of the CFA home page, www.circusfans.org. The link title graphically suggests, "For Animals."

For the first time ever, the CFA will have a current, regularly updated site that will serve members’ need to know about pending animal legislation, while simplifying their ability to participate in campaigns to ensure that animals remain in the circus.

“This site will be the central location for our campaigns to support animals in the circus,” said Committee Chairman and CFA Eastern Vice President Gary Payne. “It is intended to speed up our work, to multiply our efforts, and to eliminate rumor and gossip.”

The site was rolled out the week of December 6. Payne said the site would not initially require a password; however, submissions will require approval  prior to posting, which will include verification. The site is intended to be user-friendly, available to all CFA members with computers. Information that is posted will be factual, verifiable, and publicly available.

“Any and all information that is verified in fact will be submitted as an update,” Payne said. “Our goal is that if it isn’t here, it isn’t a fact.”

He said this is important not only in providing the most up-to-date, factual information possible about legislation, and how Fans may monitor and participate appropriately in campaigns to keep animals in the circus, but posting only factual information protects the CFA while making it easier for members to do their part—when needed—to support the circus industry.

The site will offer state-by-state legislative updates, including brief descriptions of introduced bills, status updates, and proposed action items. The site will also offer links to related sites such as OABA (Outdoor Amusement Business Association).

“Having this capability truly multiplies the efforts of the Animal Welfare Committee and our friends in the circus business who are delighted to have this tool up and running,” Payne said. “The site will be the go-to place in campaigns to protect the right of the majority of Americans who wish to enjoy performing animals in the circus.

“It is a truly historic partnership—uniting the circus industry, our Fans, and animal trainers and handlers. Just a few minutes a day on the site will help our members keep current conveniently and consistently with a critical issue that will very likely define the future of the circus itself.”

“It is clear from our research that most Americans truly love the traditional circus and expect to see their favorite animal performers,” Mort Gamble, National Public Relations Chairman for the CFA, added. “Every member of the CFA and all circus enthusiasts everywhere should applaud and support this initiative. Combined with our current ‘Save the Circus’ campaign, outreach to youth circuses, and other advocacy, it’s a substantial, exciting and worthwhile ‘down payment’ on protecting the future of America’s greatest family entertainment value and tradition—the circus.”

Gamble and Payne said that the support, awareness, and participation of CFA members, along with animal trainers and handlers and the circus industry in general, will be vital in keeping the Circus Fans organization and circuses updated on pertinent animal-welfare issues, as well as enhancing the value of the new web link.
