Fourth-generation circus executive will be signing up new CFA members.
James M. Hamid, Jr., has been named New Jersey State Chairman for the Circus Fans Association of America. A fourth-generation member of the Hamid Circus family and a lifelong circus enthusiast, Jim has valuable perspectives on both sides of the circus world: as producer/performer and as patron, notes Maxine House, an active CFA member from New Jersey and President-Elect of the Circus Fans. Jim has spoken at various regional and national functions of the CFA, providing updates on the modern operation of the Hamid Circus and the many issues impacting the circus industry today. He was named to the post by District 3 Director David P. Orr. Hamid will succeed Frank Robie, who has held the post successfully for many years, served as a convention chair three times and as national CFA president. Frank will continue to assist in planning for the 2011 national convention to be held in Newburgh, NY. Jim Hamid expects to remain very active in recruiting members to the CFA from the New Jersey area. Experienced in all phases of circus operation, from "roustabout" to floor manager to executive, he currently serves as Vice President and Production Manager of the Hamid Circus. When he was 24, he was named the youngest State Fair Manager in the history of the nation. He has been active in CFA for a number of years, serving as President of the George A. Hamid Tent No. 109, Southern New Jersey, and has served on the Board of the Outdoor Amusement Business Association (OABA) Circus Unit. He lives in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, with his wife Shirley and children Belinda and James III.
