TRAPEZE STAR TO APPEAR AT SHOWFOLKS
OPEN HOUSE SATURDAY
In keeping with local circus
heritage, the Showfolks of Sarasota is celebrating World Circus Day, Saturday,
April 18, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with an open house free of charge to
everyone. Highlighting the event will be the appearance of circus personality,
Miguel Vazquez from 11:30-12:30, for photo and autograph opportunities.
Miguel will be in Sarasota for the World Premiere of the documentary on his
career as trapeze artist, "The Last Great Circus Flyer", from noted
Producer-Director Philip Weyland, debuting at the Regal Cinema Friday and
Saturday as part of the Sarasota Film Festival.
Vazquez made circus chronicles by
becoming the first flyer to complete the impossible quadruple somersault from
the trapeze bar to his catcher, a feat he accomplished 85% of his attempts,
2987 times. He was enshrined on St. Armand's Ring of Fame earlier this
year.
The Showfolks of Sarasota Club is a
haven of history with hundreds of photographs of circus greats on
display. Members will be on hand to personally conduct tours of the
facility, which is not regularly open to the public. Complimentary hot
dogs, chips, salads and beverages will be served to all. Bring your
cameras. Showfolks is located at 5204 N. Lockwood Ridge Road.
