Elephant husbandry tool facing ban in California.

SB 716 is a bill that would ban the elephant husbandry tool that allows us to manage our elephants, to give them the best of care, to take them to fairs and events and to direct them in movies and commercials.  The bullhook, an archaic term used by animal rights extremist groups, is more appropriately know as an elephant guide.  It closely resembles the show stick that is used to guide cows and pigs at fairs and its use is comparable to the species specific husbandry tools that allow us to train dogs and horses, such as bits, reins, collars and leads.  The bill may be heard as early as this month by the Public Safety Committee.  Please contact your senator and the senators on the committee listed below ASAP and ask them to oppose SB 716.

Take action - California residents only, please

 1.  Call your state senator and urge OPPOSITION to SB 716. To locate your senator and locate her or his phone number, click here . Choose the link to your state senator, which will take you to that person's home page. (Click on "Contact" to find the phone number if it is not listed on the right hand side of the home page.)

When calling, simply state: "I am a constituent and I am calling to ask that the Senator please oppose SB 716, legislation that would prohibit the use of husbandry tools necessary to provide elephants with the best care and allow the public to continue to enjoy them."

2. Send a message to your state senator via the on-line contact form. (You can usually find this on your senator's home page menu under "Contact.")
